A Late Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Nathan and I travelled to Birmingham with the kitties and spent a couple of days with my family. (I totally stole this picture from my mom.)

I'm very ready to start a new year. I don't think I've ever been so excited. Next year is going to be fun!

Cold Cats.

We took the kitties out in the snow today. It was quite an adventure for them, since they normally only observe the outside from a window. It was getting dark so the video isn't as clear as I had hoped. We may take them out again tomorrow. If you notice we got even more snow since my last video. We have about 6-8".

Before you start feeling bad for Sherman know this is the same kitty that tore open a wet tea bag all over my beige duvet. The same duvet that covers the warm bed he sleeps on every night. He deserves no sympathy.

(For some reason blogger isn't uploading my pictures of Isabell. I'll try reposting them tomorrow.)

Fingers Were Crossed.

You know what's better than staying home from school because of snow? Staying home from work!! I checked the weather about a hundred times yesterday and watched as the snow got closer and closer. It's finally here and I'm loving it. I have to admit as much as I hate the summers in Tulsa, the city really redeems itself come winter. I mean snow before Christmas?! That's unheard of in Alabama. I had to run out very quickly to take these pictures. The wind chill is 9 degrees.

Here are some photos and a video...

Now you know, I gotta keep my Shermy warm on such a cold day. It was the perfect time to pull out his winter attire.
He appears to be mad at first.

However, he soon realized it was for more than just good looks.

Tiny Elvis.

Here are some pictures of Jackson dressed as Elvis for Halloween. In case you don't remember, he's the baby I used to keep. The costume was totally his idea...

Tell me he's not the cutest thing you've seen all day!

A Mid-Pie Baking Rant.

FYI. If meringue were a person we would not be friends. It's way to picky about the type of bowl it will sit in and heaven forbid a tiny drop of yolk sneaks in. If you do not play by its rules forget about getting it to peak. Tell me who invented meringue? I would like to have their name. It's not even that good.

I have to go buy more eggs. Perhaps, I'll buy whip cream just to be spiteful.

AA for the Beauty Junkie

Hi. My name is Amby and I'm addicted to beauty products. (everyone in unison...Hi Amby)

I cleaned out from under my bathroom sink the other day and was astounded at how many products I have accrued. Well, I don't know why I was astounded, because I was there when I bought them. Sometimes I allow myself to buy into makeup's advertising, even though deep down I know it's just marketing. But what if they really do invent a lip gloss that lasts 12 hours, despite multiple make outs and drinks? I want to know! I have improved at throwing things out, but you never know when you may need fake eyelashes with glitter, 12 shades of pink lip gloss or 5 moisturizers for different skin problems. What if tomorrow my skin is extra dry? Crisis averted, I have an extra thick lotion. Nathan is quite baffled by my need for so many things, until the cold air hits his face and he needs moisturizer.

Also, I've always felt it was important to coordinate my outfits. I tried to loosen up some in college. Even still I couldn't go more than a drive home before fixing chipped nail polish. Right now my toes need to be repainted and even though I'm wearing boots and socks, it bothers me. What if there's an emergency and I have to remove my shoes? Remember: Freshly painted toenails, just as important as clean underwear. Here I demonstrate coordinating my nails with my necklace.

(Seriously guys restrain yourself from making man hand jokes. Those of you wondering, I think I have man hands and my mom and brother think it's ok to make fun of me.)

I'm going to overnight him.

Sherman says it's about time for him to visit. I'm sending him UPS.
He'll be there tomorrow.
Oh, and he's bringing his water cooler. Have fun!

Follow me down the rabbit hole...

Blah blah blah. Halloween was over a week ago, I know this. I didn't even realize this picture was on my camera. I thought someone else had taken it. The Saturday before Halloween, Nathan and Aaron, who have a band called Motorcade, played their first show. We all decided to dress as characters from Alice in Wonderland. Nathan went as the Mad Hatter and Aaron was the March Hare. I was Alice and my sweet friend Tony was the White Rabbit. I followed him around all night, of course. And my lovely friend Renee went as the Queen of Hearts. Their show was awesome!! I was so proud of them.

We took this after the show. We didn't manage to get a group picture. Smart, huh?

I found this awesome site:

Using naptime as a photo op.

Sherman says he fully supports my new hobby.

Also, I was able to get a picture of his singed whiskers. I doubt he will be sniffing anymore lit candles.

Party at the Water Cooler

This speaks for itself.

Everytime I play this video he runs into the kitchen and looks at the cooler.

On another Sherman note...Two of his whiskers are singed because he got too close to a candle. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up in pictures. And don't worry (Zac) he wasn't harmed.

1 Year Today!

I've been blogging for a year!
Can you believe I've had that much to say?
Don't answer that!
Thanks for reading, Mom!
Just kidding, you too Dad!

This is so not an excuse!

A year ago when I began blogging I promised myself that I’d never apologize for taking so long in between posts. It always annoys me when other people do that. I mean just stop being lazy and update! (Don’t go back and check, I’m pretty sure I haven’t ever done this.) However, I've recently gotten a new job. Yes it's true, I’ve gone corporate. My hours are now 7:45 AM!-5:15, which translates: “I have very little time during the week to do anything but sleep and knit!” Being that this is my second week, I’m starting to adjust to my new wake up before the sun schedule. Did you know it’s still dark at 6:15? However I have lucked out by not having to get up this early the past 6+ years, except the occasional early flight, I will never know. The past few days Sherman has decided that I shouldn’t be allowed to hit snooze for 20 minutes and encourages me, (encourage=tries to drink the water on my night table but instead almost knocks it over), to wake up earlier than I have to. He’s a lovely kitten.

So, anyway, I like my new job.

Would it be weird to knit on the beach?

So, I had intended to post a beach blog right after I got home. Then I started knitting.
I can't stop. Put in your order for scarves now, I'm on a roll.

However, beach pics were requested.

I think the beach is a magical place, the smell, the sun, the sounds. It's so beautiful.
We danced.

We biked., walked in a line. (Trying to include everyone without using the same pics as my mom.)

We watched birds contemplate life.

We kissed.

1 year yesterday.

Yesterday we celebrated our first anniversary. We're at the beach enjoying the sun and the sand. We went to dinner and then for a bike ride to the beach. Bikes are the main form of transportation around here.

The weather is wonderful. Though I am slightly sunburned. Some woman at a store told me I needed to wear more sunscreen. My dad however laid at the beach for about 4 or 5 hours yesterday. He looks ethnic, like perhaps he doesn't belong to our family. My aunts, Margo and Peggy, and cousin Connie are here today. We're about to go to the pool. I'm going to try and catch up to my dad.

And now for some R&R!

Starting tomorrow morning Nathan and I will be on vacation for the next 9 days. We're flying to Birmingham and then driving down to Seaside with my family. I'm pumped. I plan to return with a tan! I may be able to update some while I'm gone if we can find Internet. Otherwise, plan on a super long post when I return. We'll be celebrating our first wedding anniversary on Sunday! Oh how time flies.

You may be wondering what we're doing with our precious angels while we're gone. Our awesome neighbor will be feeding and loving on them all week. Hopefully, Isabell won't bully Sherman too much.

Oh, and did I mention that one of Nathan's fish had 25 babies the other day? Yeah, they're tiny little black fish about the size of ants. So cute. Isabell said she'd be happy to watch them while we're gone.

See you guys next week!

N&A's Animal Rescue

1. Determine where the animal is stuck in the log.

2. Use a flashlight and chopsticks to pull the animal to safety.

3. Examine to make sure the animal is ok.

4. Return the animal to his home.

Nathan has a green thumb.

These started out simply as seeds in a pot. Look what Nathan has turned them into! ;-)
Nathan's Morning Glory.

They only bloom in the morning, hence their name. So, he goes out to see them every morning with a cup of tea in his hand.
We get excited about plants. We're such grownups.

Stirring up some publicity.

I realized a way to bring more people to my blog. All I need to do is drop some celeb keywords, like BRITNEY SPEARS, so when people do google searches for popular things my site will pop up. Granted they'll be pissed to realize it isn't a site about ANGELINA JOLIE AND BRAD PITT, but in fact just some girl in Tulsa with cats. Perhaps, someone searching for PICTURES OF SURI CRUISE will be miffed to learn this site does not contain pictures of famous babies. Anyone wanting to view PARIS HILTON'S MUG SHOT or um, her SEX VIDEO, will be gravely disappointed to find only videos of adorable cats. Ok, that last one might bring the wrong type of people, hmm. Yeah, I wouldn't want anyone looking for PORN to accidentally come to this site.

So, we'll see if this works.

Monster Mix.

No, this post isn't about an 80's hard rock compilation CD. Target has this trail mix or "gorp" as my mother used to call it. It's really addictive, don't buy it. I kind of thought I wouldn't like the peanut butter chips in it, little did I know this would be the best part. I remove the raisins, obviously. So yeah stay away from this stuff.

Mommy, look what the kitty's wearing.

We've had Sherman for quite a few months now and he has become an irreplaceable part of the family. Even Nathan, who was originally concerened only about Isabell's feelings, has started taking to him. Sherman is definately becoming comfortable in his role as the baby.

He plays the role quite well...

1. He's messy.

2. He copies his sister.

3. He's adorable.

4. Oh, and he lets you do silly things to him while he sleeps.

Even though he's getting big, he's still a baby. Just wait until we have a daughter, can't you picture him in a pink ruffled doll dress drinking fake orange juice from a toy bottle?

When my brother was very little instead of calling me by name he called me "best friend."
That's what this picture makes me think about.

Fresh Crayons.

Every year around this time stores stock the back to school section with crisp notebooks, pencils with brand new pink erasers and boxes of crayons with that yummy smell that soon takes over your new backpack. Buying new school supplies was one of the only things that I looked forward to when school started back. I was always optimistic about beginning a new year. The summer seemed to melt away the memories of too much homework, boring books and rude teachers. I loved perfectly packing my backpack with my new supplies the night before. Sure by Christmas the notebooks are wrinkled, the erasers have been chewed off and the red and yellow crayons are broken and rolling around with crumbs in the bottom of your backpack. It was still fun. The little things helped me push through the stressful side of school.

It was the same way once I started college. The first day of class was the only morning all year that I would wake up in time to fully get ready in an outfit I'd picked out the night before. Granted every day after that I got ready in 15 minutes. On the days I had to dress nicely and wear makeup to give a speech, my classmates would always compliment me. The way they would say so surprisingly, "Oh, wow you look nice." Uh huh, thanks.

I have been done with school for over a year now and I must say I felt a slight pang of sadness when I saw the "Back to School" signs at the drug store. Later, I checked the mail only to find Belmont's quarterly magazine with pictures of the campus and lists of events. Again, forgetting the nights I was up until 6 A.M. writing papers (ok, that only happened once and it was an annotated bibliography) or the mornings I was sick to my stomach over the thought of being called on in Italian to interpret something I didn't know in front of my 5 multi-lingual classmates. I was still jealous that I didn't have something new starting. Until I realized that it doesn't have to be about school. I can feel the same way about a new job or maybe just a new journal.

For me this time of year will always represent starting a new chapter in life. No matter what you have going on find something that will help you start fresh, whether it be a new job, new fall clothes, or just new pencils.

Seriously, do you not want to take a huge whiff of those?

Amy Grant rocks.

Here recently for some reason I've had a rush of old music memories, which of course reminds me of back when I had a music career. By "music career" I mean when I was young enough to loudly sing along to Amy Grant in my room without being judged or asked if maybe we can not be married anymore. Losing this freedom is definitely one of the down falls of growing up, well that and having to pay bills. So, I downloaded Amy Grant's The Collection, a compilation of her earlier hits. As soon as the music began the memories flooded back. I saw myself sitting in my old bedroom with my huge tape player listening to every song and wailing right along with her. Sure many of her songs were a little deep and slightly depressing for an 11 year old, but I didn't care. Tonight I was singing along, rather loudly, when Nathan walked in the door. The look on his face turned to disgust, then disappointment, then he went into his office and shut the door. (Ok, well at least I didn't used to be SUPER into Carman... cough cough...)

A friend of mine in Nashville ran into her at a restaurant once. When she told me I acted like I didn't think it was a big deal, but secretly I was so jealous. But I mean what would I have even said to her, "I used to use my brush as a microphone when I performed your music."

Where are your manners?

You think you've taught your kits to be well behaved. But then they do things like this...

That was Sherman pawing at my fudge pop. He touched it quite a few times and I'm pretty sure he hadn't washed his hands since his last trip to the "box".

This is typical Isabell. I just happened to catch her on video this time.

They so got that from Nathan.

Sunday, August 06, 2006

I can't think of a good title for this post.

Isabell gives Sherman a shoulder to lean on.

Isabell has been considering a music career. She's been writing a lot lately and wants to get Nathan to help her.

Sherman mainly gets in trouble. He climbs a lot, which usually results in something falling over and it tends to be something breakable and often belongs to Nathan. After this picture was taken the chair fell into the aquarium. I've never seen Nathan jump up that quickly. Luckily for Sherman's well-being, it didn't break.

I turned into Auntie Anne for an hour the other day and made some pretzels. They were yum.

Lastly, here are the kids posing with their dad.

That's all for now.

I bet you thought I had melted.

I'm sorry I've been away so long. I blame it all on the heat. Seriously, it has zapped my creativity. Nathan and I have locked ourselves up in the apartment with the air on, blinds down, Scrabble board open, documentary playing. I'm going to push on through the disgusting weather and update...

The most exciting thing that has happened lately would be the visiting of my family. Last week, they came to see me. My mom made it a point to be with me the whole time, so we were quite inseparable. She went with me to work and met Abby and Jackson. She oohed and gooed over them like I do everyday. I tried to show her around Tulsa a little. We went and got spray tans. (If you haven't yet tried this, you totally should. I laugh the whole time it sprays me, because it's just so weird. It made me two shades darker...unfortunately two shades darker than pale still does not equal tan.) I took her to some local shops. But mostly we sat around and watched movies. She had an overload of Ambytime and is now having difficulty adjusting back to normal life. I also get upset when we separate and apparently I have been doing this since I was a baby. I think it has something to do with being breastfed for too long.

My brother and dad had some work to do while they were here. So, I mostly saw them at meal time. One of the nights we had dinner with Nathan's parents at India Palace, our favorite restaurant. It's very fun to be with both of our families at the same time. We are all a bit goofy. Except our dads who sat at the end of the table and talked missions and Bible the whole time, while everyone else was making obscene jokes. I also took them to try Pei Wei for the first time, so delicious.

And of course everyone finally got to meet our little Sherman. I'm quite sure their lives will never be the same. It was nice to have them here. Hopefully, we'll be seeing them again next month at the beach!

It must be love.

Can I just say that Tulsa is the worst place to be in July?! Hell has nothing on this city. Today for example, it's 103...but it "feels" like 109, according to them. Air conditioners everywhere are grasping for a breath, because even with air it's still hot. I grew up in the South where it too gets rather sweaty in the summer, but the air here is different. As soon as you step foot out the door, or look out the window for that matter, you begin to sweat. I could shower 3 times a day and still feel icky. Awesome.

The cats keep taking naps on the kitchen floor, I guess it's cooler. So I'm going to go try that.

Where My Girls At?

Over the past week or so I've started realizing the lack of time I spend with girls. I specifically mean the best friend type who you shop, complain giggle about boys, and eat too much ice cream with. What those aren't stereotypes? This came to me the other day while I was drying my hair. As I angrily tried to style my bangs, I realized I hadn't once mentioned to anyone that I was growing them out. Later, I told Nathan about my epiphany. He told me that he would talk about my bangs. Very sweet. However, I truly doubt he would enjoy a 45-minute conversation about bang lengths, shapes, styles, and function. (Unless they were his bangs.)

It's just that I miss calling Tisha to plan a last minute sleepover. I miss staying up late with a bunch of friends and never running out of things to talk about. I miss going to see a chick flick and crying even though it's corny. I miss having someone to get a pedicure with. Sure living with a boy is cool, but they won't notice that your eyeshadow matches your shoes or that your eyelashes look especially long, are you using a new mascara? So, to everyone who has a friend like this within a reasonable distance, hug her and tell her how much you appreciate her.
I miss you guys!!

I spy.

Can anyone find the naughty kitten?

Hmm...where could he be?

He's not in the kitchen. Maybe the bathroom..

Oh, there he is.

Now if only I could find Isabell...

Man, they're such tricksters.
